Persians have many wonderful characteristics: their thick, long coats, their eyes and their personalities. Because of these characteristics they require more care and maintenance, as someone who wants to own one of these wonderful, loving breeds you also need to be willing to invest the time in caring for them. Here are some needs you want to think about.
Eyes
Persians may look similar, but they are often quite different. Some Persians eyes will tear more than others, but they all need daily cleaning of their eyes. If not done, the area around their eyes can develop hard crusts that are difficult to remove and will stain. The staining will be more noticeable in the light-colored Persians. The dark colored faces do still tear and needs maintenance even you do not see the staining or crusts.
Brushing
To keep their coats looking it is best daily brushing is important or they will develop knots in their coats. Then it will become painful and even more painful to your pet to remove the knots. This is also a get bonding time with your pet. The kittens are used to being groomed since they are a few weeks old by both mom and their human family. Keeping to a daily brushing routine your kitten will respond positively and it also helps with the shedding. Persian will still shed but if brushed daily it will not be as much.
Bathing
Bathing your new kitten at least monthly is usually recommended and starts when they are young. The bathing will remove oils and help to keep their coats beautiful. Your new kitten may even enjoy the pampering and warm water. They quickly get used to blow drying and you will find they are extra happy with all the extra attention. Persians do enjoy being clean.
Veterinarian Care
Kittens receive their first shots and deworming. You will receive a Health Record with all the information on it. Keeping your kitten in excellent health is up to you following your vets recommended appointments is important.
Nutrition
Another important part of your kitten’s well-being is nutrition. Your kitten will be on a solid food diet. Persians usually live 15 plus years and some even 20 years, maintaining good nutrition helps to ensure your kitten will live this long healthy life. Also having healthy cat will mean lower vet bills and a happier cat. Your cats beautiful coat and personality will be apparent by maintaining good nutrition. Once you take the kitten home their nutrition and health will be up to you.
